virtual quilting bee update

I'm in two virtual quilting bees: SewConnected and 8two8. Both are on flickr. I like virtual quilting bees, and I don't like them. I like the challenge and comraderie of the groups, but I get a little wary of making blocks every month. Don't I sound lazy? I think that is why one or two bees is plenty for me.

August is Amy's month for SewConnected. She's making something similar to this and asked for blocks of various sizes. So with my scraps and with the fabric she sent along, I made these for her.

The smallest blocks are two inches including seam allowances. They were so fun to make!

August is LauraJay's month for 8two8. She requested I Spy houses and figured out a pattern for us to use. And you know I love doing I Spy! Here is that I made for her.

September is my month for 8two8. I am requesting blocks with free pieced words. One of each person's four words is her name. The other three words are chosen from a list of words I posted to the group. I also requested solid or solidish backgrounds and prints for the letters. Here is my first block.

What are you working on?

ps - thank you all for the nice comments you leave. they always give me a smile.

Your blog is one of my FAVORITES! I get excited any time I see that you've posted something new. Your work appeals to the WILD side of my creativity, challenging me - daring me - to go with my instincts. It seems like the more I move toward your style, the closer I move toward the real me on the inside! Know what I mean? Sorry if I sound creepily stalkerish...

I LOVE these two ideas!!! Your letters look great, do you use Lazy Gal's tutorials? I've got lots of free time this weekend, I do believe I'll go give these a try!

Those blocks are all so free. I am way structured in the way I do things. Right now, I am working on not being lazy and getting my act together to start working on Christmas gifts.

So...Sarah...can I use purple in your block? Or would you rather I didn't? Lol! I totally understand if you would rather have a "purple-free" quilt!

Gorgeous as always! Your quilts are so inspiring. I'm currently working on hand quilting a baby blanket. Only my second quilt to attempt, but I really love doing it!

I always love what you do. You have such a great eye for color. Your choices are sometimes unconventional but look so great. And you houses always catch my eye!! I want to make some right now.

I totally get you on the virtual quilting bees thing. I am in two, as well, and some months I feel like the only quilting I get done is my blocks. I love sharing the quilt love, and being stretched, but I also like to make things that I love just because I love them, with no restrictions.

I like the squares -- they are awesome.

Aside from finishing DQS7 and my virtual quilting bee blocks, I'm working on a baby quilt for my friend with almost my entire Heather Ross stash, and then a crazy baby quilt for me that will hopefully end up looking like the comics page in a newspaper. Or like a big mess. We'll see.

Love the squares, they make me want to sew. And to me that is a compliment.
