swap #1

long, long ago....

Helen and I decide to do a doll quilt swap. I think we talked about it last summer. Well, we finally got around to it this spring. Last spring I got so much done. This spring, I still got a lot done, but it was crazy busy! Maybe it's the soccer four nights a week. I dunno.

Look at the fabulous quilt Helen sent! I love red and yellow and orange! and stars! Her quilt is perfectly made and gorgeous. And the quilting is wonderful. I love it Helen.

When we talked about the swap, I said I wanted a placemat quilt. I love having my table covered with mini quilts. I mean placemats. It's a fun way to display them. And other people get to see them because my doll quilt wall is in my bedroom. When Helen sent the quilt, she said she wanted to see a bowl of spaghetti on it. Eeek! It's too nice to use on the table. But you know what? After using placemat quilts for several months, only Billy's quilt has a few tiny stains on it. And I think they are from grease. Everything else has washed out. Just to be safe though, Helen's beauty is residing in the center for now.

When making a swap quilt, I always over think it. I tend to over think most things. Ask my husband : ) Do I make houses? Are people sick of my houses? Is my partner expecting a house quilt? Do I want to make another house quilt? Am I in a rut? "Can't she make anything but houses?" Ack! So I looked at Helen's faves on flickr, but she didn't fave any house quilts?! She doesn't love house quilts?! Double Ack! She did fave a star quilt that I too have faved. Whew! I can make stars. Wonky stars. And she said she likes the blue/green combo. Me too! My intention for the quilt was not for it to be a mini version of the inspiration quilt, but a "piece" of it. Like someone had cut out a section of the quilt.

I think it is fun that we both did star quilts. It was probably partly Tia's influence.

Next up: the doll quilt I received for Doll Quilt Swap 6.

I love your idea to use small quilts as placemats; it gives a table such character!

Your star quilt and placemats have both inspired me! I now want mini quilt placemats. And I want to make almost that exact star quilt for my son's bed.
thanks!

oh I love both of these quilts. I LOVE the colors Helen used on all the different sized squares and rectangles in the middle. Use in on a table? eeeek no. I love the different background bits on your stars and the sizes and the falling off the edges. marvelous.
