creating

During the last few days of binding, binding, binding I've been thinking and planning what I want to work on next. What do I want to work on for me and my family, quilts and clothes, the 4 way swap, etc. So my brain has been going full force with ideas. I wouldn't let my self start anything new until all the binding was done.

Well, yesterday I was finally free! And I was paralized with what to do. Here I was with the time to work, and all I could think of was what could I tackle now? What is my next goal? What can I get DONE? I only have "x" amount of time, what should I do?

Thankfully, I was able to step back and really think about it and realize that I wanted to create. To play. To dive into my scrap box and see what happens. No goals, no deadlines, no finished product - just create. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to make for my 4ws pals, so I decide to think about the mini quilt swap. The group had been trying to decide what the size range should be for the group. 6 inch square or a range, if a range what range? So I started to think about how much could I cram into a 6 inch square of space? Well, here is how much I can cram into a 6 inch square:

little house

Little House

a side note about blogging: I spend (a lot of) time on flickr. I started with flickr, and now that I have a blog, I almost don't know what to do with it. My posts tend to be just slightly more than my flickr posts as far as content goes. So I'm trying to think about what I want to blog about, to share more than just pictures, to not treat it like an extension of flickr. So I'm trying bloggy friends.

You're doin' a good job! I made two little houses today...to make a 6 inch block...I came up short on one side by half an inch and I came up too long on the other side by 1/4 inch. I did free piecing as well! Care to tell us your free piecing technique? Is it just cutting as straight as possible with scissors and no rotary cutter except at the end to square up your block?

I love this block - sooo much fun. What an amazing quilt you could make with blocks along these lines. I'm definitely happy you have a blog now since I rarely flickr.

That's only 6"?! Those must be some itty-bitty pieces... I love the little houses! They are so cute :-)

On the blogfront..I have both too, and it seems there are a few people that overlap, but also a lot of friends that only use one of the two.

I like to see both, because you often have more pictures on flickr, and more words on the blog :-)

So I think you are doing just fine!

I love it. It reminds me of that White Stripes song: Little Room:

"When you're in your little room
and you're working on something good
but if it is really good
You're gonna need a bigger room
and when you're in the bigger room
You might not know what to do
You might have to think of
How you got started sittin' in your little room"
