from the birdbath

It was cold enough to freeze the water in the birdbath the other night. My kids like to play with the ice when this happens. And it was cold enough the following day that this ice didn't melt completely and was still a little bit there the next day.

Which leads me to my question. What are some of the ideas you have about Florida? I'm writing a little "misconceptions about Florida post", and I wanted to know if you have any questions for this Floridian.

Here are a few I've heard:
* it's windy
* people don't get colds

What do you think?

do you worry about hurricanes?
do you have more sunny days than not?
do you still like going to Disney World (or other major tourist place?)

I will try to think of more...my husband's grandfather lives in Ft.Lauderdale and makes us laugh when we visit him. He is always trying to cover up our kids with coats, and hats, scarves when it seems to be so warm to us, we live in Canada.

We have friends in Marco Island and they call it "God's waiting room" because of all the old people. I know you don't worry about hurricanes because we don't in NC. You just deal with them.

Do you miss the seasons?

I've heard it's unbearably humid and it's good to own a second home elsewhere--a place to flee during hurricane season. :-)

It never gets cold in Florida. My first year there ('89) my pips froze on Christmas Eve. I had never experienced that when living up north.

Do all the women look like they do on CSI Miami and Miami Ink? C'mon, tell me you skate about on roller blades wearing a bikini top and cut off denim hotpants....

well, you just blew my misconceptions out of the water. i thought it was always hot there. :) last late january/early february we were there and it was HOT AND HUMID. in Jan. i couldn't imagine how dreadful it must be in the summer.

if you run out of ice, we have plenty to spare. :)

Doesn't half of Canada live there - in the winter?

It's a constant vacation in Florida.

This is so funny! Having grown up in FL and now living elsewhere, I hear the misconceptions often and they make me laugh!
